Boston Celebrates Greek Independence Day

Boston -- Metropolitan Methodios and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino were the grand marshals at this year's Greek Independence Day parade, held on Sunday April 7th.  

The parade featured a special tribute to the victims of Sept. 11th.  The Federation's float displayed models of the Twin Towers and the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which were demolished as a result of the terrorist attacks. Over fifty parishes, schools, and associations participated, as well as fifteen Hellenic associations. Twenty-one floats completed the parade route, which ran from the Boston Public Library to Charles Street.

The parade is organized annulaly by the Federation of the Hellenic American Societies of New England.  Among the many notable Greek-Americans present at this year's parade was former Massachusetts Governor and presidential candidate Michael Dukakis.
