Theodosios "Ted" Nicholas Papleacos Passes Away |

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Theodosios Ted Nicholas Papleacos, 81, of Shelburne Road died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006. Born in Lowell, Mass., on June 30, 1924 to Nicholas Theodosios and Olga Gikas Papleacos. Ted started school speaking only Greek, the language of his immigrant parents. He excelled at his studies, and at 17 entered Harvard College in the fall of 1941. He served his country for the duration of World War II, European Theater. Stationed in France in 1944 with 108th Infantry, he was part of the liberation of Hofheim in 1945. After the war, Ted remained in the capacity of an officer with the Occupation Effort in Germany. When he returned to the U.S, Ted completed his undergraduate studies and was accepted into the Harvard Business School. He recieved his MBA in 1950, and took a position with the Saco Lowell Shops in Saco. There he met his wife of 33 years, the late Chrysoula Drivas Papleacos. Ted was later entrusted with the managing operations of an international subsidiary, Serra Saco Lowell, in Barcelona, Spain where he restored a bankrupt textile manufacturing operation to profitability. Upon the completion of that assignment, Ted moved his family to Greenville, S.C., continuing his management career with Platt Saco Lowell, which was later bought by Hollingsworth. From 1974-82, he was again assigned management duties overseas, in the U.K. The remainder of his career was with Hollingsworth Saco Lowell in Easley, S.C., until he retired in 1995. Ted married Panayiota Balducci in 1996, with whom he spent many wonderful years. He will be remembered as someone who most enjoyed his family and friends. He had great joy in following the activities of his children and later his grandchildren. One of his last activities was to attend the Hellenic Dance Festival in Greenville, where he saw his grandson and namesake perform. He leaves his wife, Panayiota, of Greenville, S.C.; brother, Stephen Nicholas Papleacos and his wife, Ann of Tewksbury, Mass., and their children; daughter, Julia Gray of Greenville, S.C.; son, Spiros and his wife Lisa of Laurens, S.C.; granddaughters, Shelley D'Alessio, and Amanda Nance of Greenville, S.C., Chandler Cates of Columbia, S.C., and grandson, Jason of Charleston SC; son, Nicholas, his wife Ellen and grandsons Ted and William, of Marietta, Ga.; son, Michael Balducci of New York City, N.Y.; daughter Stacey Balducci of Cincinnati, Ohio; cousin William Alexis and his wife Clementine of Lowell, Mass., and their children; cousin Fotine McCarthy and her children of Chelmsford, Mass. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, February 28, at 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Fr. Tom Pistolis officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. with the Trisagion being said at 7 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary.
