Andrew E. Lekousi Passes Away |

PORTLAND - Andrew E. Lekousi, 81, died Dec. 23, 2005 at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. He suffered a minor stroke from which he never fully recovered. He was born Nov. 9, 1924 a son of Eustace and Helen Lekousi, founders of the Lekousi Bakery Andrew graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1942. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. His squadron was VPB 201. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he took over management of the family business, where he was a baker and master cake decorator. Andrew was a life member of American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, Kora Shriners, VFW post 6859, Elks lodge #188, American Legion Post #0017, Mason's Eagles, and the Boys and Girls Club alumni association. He was a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed following Portland High School athletics. One of his favorite past times was playing pool with friends at the Elks and VFW. His hobbies included collecting memorabilia from the past. Andrew was predeceased by his son, James one month (SID); his sister, Aphrodite Lekousi Tsatsos from Chicago; and his brother, James of Portland. Andrew Lekousi is survived by his two daughters, Athena Sanchez and her husband John of Torrance, Calif., and Melanie Lekousi and her partner Fred Peabody of Effingham, N.H.; grandchildren, Guy Call Jr. of Portland, Khaled Ekour, Jasmine Ekour, Sara Sanchez, and Ryan Sanchez of Torrance, Calif. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lekousi Netos of Portland, formerly of Hammond, Ind.; brother, George Lekousi and wife Helen of Scarborough; brother, Arthur and his wife Freda of Westbrook; his sister-in-law, Christine Lekousi, Jame's wife of Portland; as well as Dr. George Tsatos of Chicago, Aphrodite's husband. Andrew is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. All who knew him well will miss his sense of humor. Family would like to thank the Staff of Maine Medical. Especially SCU 4 and ICU 9th floor nurses for their wonderful care. The Family would also like to give a special thank-you to his good friends Herb Ledue and Richie McDonough, for their friendship and support. All services will be private.
